What’s the Worship Style?

Trinity is a liturgical church. “Liturgy” is a simple way to refer to the practices that have been commonplace in Christian churches for centuries. Trinity has retained many of these liturgical practices because of their deep symbolic significance. For instance, the pastor wears a white robe – seem funny? It’s a symbol! It represents the function he is serving that day: the function of speaking God’s Word to the congregation. The robe helps focus on that task, instead of whatever stylish (or not so stylish) clothes Pastor Mike has on that day. The pattern of worship has a basic structure that we follow pretty much every Sunday – seem boring or repetitious? The significance of doing similar (but not the exact same) things every Sunday helps drive simple truths home so that they go with you as you leave – truths like God’s love for you!

Do churches have to worship like this to be called “Christian”? No! And Trinity passes no judgment on the style of another church. We do, however, hope that you’ll join us for a service or two (or more!) and see what this “liturgy” thing is all about.

What do I do?

When you do join us, you can expect to be handed a service folder from a smiley volunteer (called an “usher”). That service folder will give you the songs that we’re going to sing that day, the responses we’ll read together, and even the spots where we’ll ask worshipers to stand up and sit down. We love it when we hear the voices of many worshipers speaking the beautiful truths to each other that we’ve all come to celebrate! That’s why we have responsive readings, and why we sing together! If you join us but don’t feel comfortable speaking the responses, or aren’t that confident in your singing voice – that’s okay! Just listening is also great!

What do I Wear?

Many people in our area have grown up going to church in their “Sunday Best,” so you will see a few suits and ties and nice dresses when you join us for worship. If that’s your style, go ahead! Others are more familiar with the concept of “church jeans” versus “work jeans.” We are in Texas, after all! While, many of us desire to dress our best for Sunday, to reflect our best to the God who gives us the best blessings -- above all, we’re just glad you’re here, whether you’re in a bow tie or a T-shirt.

What do I do With my Kids?

We love it when families can come to worship all together, children and all, because God’s Word is for them too! However, we do understand that sometimes small children can find a worship service to be a challenge. If you decide it’s time to get a little privacy, there is a nursery in the entryway to the worship space. This nursery is equipped with a two-way mirror to view the service, and the audio is projected, so that you can still catch the action.

If you require assistance or have questions about this, feel free to drop us a note ahead of time! We’d love to make your time with us as comfortable as possible.
